Is it worth it? Fallout 76 Legendary Run.

ree

The Fallout 76 seasons started 3 weeks ago, not without the typical bugs that come with a Bethesda release. The start of this new content came with mixed reviews amongst those who actively play the game and quickly had people taking sides.

I decided to give it time, and see how things panned out. So far I've managed to work myself all the way to Level 56. This is with doing the Daily and Weekly quests religiously, take a couple Nuclear Winter ones, and doing the most damage I could with this past weekend's double XP event. I've experience the auto complete bug for daily challenges at least once during that time, so I missed out on about 1000 score.😒

We're now on the last day of the 3rd week and I can say, I'm not impressed. The point of this new system was to give players a goal to reach for when playing, especially those at the endgame. By providing rewards, instead of atoms for each daily it was supposed to provide something that had some in-game value but I'd say it falls short.

Why?

First the grind.

I did the math, at Level 56 I've earned 94,500 score. I will need another 125,775 score to reach the max level on unlock everything. This means that I have to do everything I've already done plus some to get there. If I go at the same pace I have been, it'll take just under another 4 weeks to get there. I don't mind a grind, if it seems obtainable, but this isn't unless you plan on making Fallout your job, or the only game you play. We'll see how the extra Score weekend that's coming up goes to making this seem like less of a grind.

Second, the rewards.

At first glance the rewards seem pretty cool, at least some of them. You've got armor and weapon skins in the mix. Camp items, consumables, and some atoms to throw in every once in a while. Then you start to unlock them, and realize they aren't really that cool or great.

For instance, I unlocked the alien saucer playground object, and It's impossible not to get it to float on a incline. Anyone who's build in Fallout 76, knows that flat ground is hard to come by, and the best places for it are littered with other peoples camps. Good luck making this one look good in your camp.

Then there's the armor skins. Those awesome Ghillie skins, guess what, they can't be used in Nuclear Winter. Why, IDK. That's the only useful place for them considering in Adventure mode your apparel covers up all your armor.

Continuing on there is the consumables and in-game currency. Caps are like water at this point, and worthless, you get less scrip that a good farming run will net you, and lunchboxes that while having fun effects, almost certainly must be used to shorten the grind for XP as much as possible. Underwhelming to say the least.

The best items I've gotten so far have to be the wallpapers. They look awesome, but are only a glimmer of sunshine in an otherwise cloudy group of rewards.

So there you have it. If you don't complete the Legendary Run, don't beat yourself up. It's something to do if you are playing to say the least, but the reward for the grind isn't much of a payoff, and you'll be looking for something more fulfilling to wet your appetite for new content.

PS. Don't buy ranks. Even if you only purchased 25 ranks you'd spend the equivalent of $30.00 and that can buy you a new game with much more payoff.
